Who runs this site

Brain Strategist (brainstrategist.com) is written and run by Marcela Bautista, from Australia. This page explains what information I collect, why, and what you can do about it. I follow the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and I respect the rights of readers in other countries, including under the GDPR in Europe and the UK and Colombia’s Ley 1581 de 2012.

What I collect, and why

If you write to me: your name, email and message, only to reply to you.

When you read the site: general statistics through Google Analytics, such as pages read, device type, approximate location and how you arrived. It doesn’t tell me who you are.

Technical records: the hosting service keeps basic data, like IP addresses, to keep the site secure.

Sensitive information

I never ask for health information or other sensitive details. Some messages I receive are personal, and I read them with care. I don’t publish or share them, and I don’t keep them longer than needed. Please share only what you feel comfortable sharing.

Brain Strategist is not therapy or medical advice, and I can’t offer crisis support by email. If you are struggling, please reach out to a mental health professional or your local support services.

What I don’t do

I don’t sell your information, show ads or track you across other websites. Your email is used only for the letter you signed up for, and your messages stay between us. I will never share your words without asking you first.

Cookies

YouThis site uses cookies to stay fast and to measure visits through Google Analytics. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, and the site will still work. To stop Google Analytics from measuring your visits, you can use Google’s opt-out tool at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Keeping information safe

I take reasonable steps to protect your information. No website can promise complete security, but I use trusted services and keep access to your information limited to me.

Your rights

You can ask me to see, correct or delete the information I hold about you. Write to me at the email above, and I will reply as soon as I can.

If you are not satisfied with my reply, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au), or the data protection authority in your country.

Links to other websites

Articles sometimes link to other websites, such as research sources, books or organisations that may be useful to you. I choose them with care, but I don’t control those sites or how they handle your information. This policy only covers brainstrategist.com, so when you visit another site, its own privacy policy applies.

How long I keep information

I keep information only for as long as it is useful for the reason you shared it:

Messages: I keep them while we are in conversation, and delete them within two years at most.

Analytics data: Google Analytics keeps visit statistics for 14 months, and then deletes them automatically.

AnalyticTechnical records: the hosting service keeps basic server records for a short time, for security.

If you want me to delete your information sooner, just ask.

Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 16. I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under that age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent me their details, please write to me and I will delete them.

Changes

If anything changes in how I handle information, I will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is important and affects how I use your email, I will let subscribers know in the letter before it takes effect.
